What Size Boiler Should I Install?

There’s certainly a lot to think about when buying a new boiler. It’s a big purchase to make, and as your family’s comfort depends on it, you want to be sure to make the right choice.

As well as thinking about the type of boiler that’s right for your home, you also need to consider its size.

Also known as output, the size of your boiler will impact on how powerful it is and how much energy it uses. Lots of factors personal to your situation will influence the size you need, and you can use our trusted guide to decide what’s right for you.

Finding the boiler size to suit your home

Consider the following before selecting your boiler:

The size of your home

If you have a home with lots of rooms, you’ll benefit from a boiler with a bigger output as there are more areas to heat. If you live in a smaller house or a flat, a smaller size will probably be sufficient and could also save energy, and therefore money.

How many bathrooms you have

Homes with multiple bathrooms require a larger output, as they need more power due to higher water demand.

The size of your old boiler

If you have been happy with your current boiler but it just needs replacing, you may want to stick with the same size. However, if your family has grown or if your children have grown and left home, it may be better to switch to a bigger or smaller sized boiler.

How much heating you use

If you don’t use the heating a lot at home you probably won’t require a huge output. For families who do, however, a bigger output will give your central heating system more power.
