FAQ's on Plumbing Repairs

It’s never fun when something goes wrong with the plumbing in your home. Plumbing is a huge part of your home, including your pipes, appliances, taps, shower and toilet to name a few: all of the things you need to keep things running smoothly every day.

During our many years of carrying out plumbing repairs for customers, we hear a lot of commonly asked questions. We’ve written these below to offer a quick guide for anyone needing help with a plumbing problem in their home.

Frequently asked questions about plumbing repairs

Can I fix some plumbing problems myself?

Some plumbing problems are minor and fairly straight-forward to repair, depending on your knowledge and confidence. If your toilet has stopped flushing, for example, you may just need a new part like a flapper valve or handle.

However, plumbing problems such as leaking pipes or boiler issues should not be attempted without the correct knowledge and experience as this risks further damage and can also be dangerous.

How long does it take to carry out a general plumbing repair?

Some plumbing problems like a blocked shower or leaking tap can be fixed straight away. Often it depends if the plumber has a necessary replacement part on the van, or if the issue just requires something to be unblocked or tightened, for example. Other times a part has to be ordered but your plumber will give you an approximate timescale for fully completing the repair.

What does being Gas Safe registered mean?

Being Gas Safe registered means an engineer has the necessary qualifications and experience to undertake work on gas appliances such as boilers and gas cookers. It’s crucial for your safety and shouldn’t be compromised on.

How do I know who I can trust with my plumbing repairs?

Check for references and reviews of local plumbers, as this will give you some insight into how reliable, skilled and professional they are. Also read through their website to check they provide the plumbing repair work you need.
